EGR OFF

Software disabling of the exhaust gas recirculation valve with removal of related fault codes P0400–P0409, P1400–P1408.

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) returns part of the exhaust gas back to the intake to lower combustion temperature and NOx emissions. The system consists of the EGR valve (vacuum or electrically actuated), often an EGR cooler, and the pipe connecting exhaust and intake manifolds. The valve is controlled by the engine ECU.

EGR blanking plate

Why the EGR valve fails

The valve operates at idle and part load. Soot from poor fuel, a worn turbocharger or injectors builds up on the valve and in the intake manifold, the valve sticks, the engine runs unevenly, fault codes appear and the car may go into limp mode.

Typical codes: P0400, P0401, P0402, P0403, P0404, P0405, P0406, P0408, P0409, P0488, P0489, P1400–P1408.

How EGR is disabled

  • A blanking plate is installed in the EGR pipe and the related faults are disabled in the ECU; or
  • The valve is permanently closed by software and its diagnostics are disabled — a blanking plate may not be needed if the valve is not stuck open.

Our file keeps the airflow and smoke limits correctly calibrated for the engine without recirculation. Available on its own or combined with tuning.
